What is Phimosis: Causes and Treatment

What is Phimosis?

Phimosis is a common condition seen in young boys, it is often known as a tightened foreskin that can not be pulled back or retracted; this is very common in new-born kids to the age of 3 years old. Phimosis gets treated on its own by the age of 2-3 years as the foreskin starts to separate naturally.

It is commonly seen that this process may take longer in many other kids, so if your child is facing this issue then this is the perfect place for you to know what you can do to solve this issue.

Treatment For Phimosis

If your toddler is facing phimosis then a treatment most certainly is not required as this condition will get better with time but if you as an adult are facing this issue then here are a few treatment options available for you.

Each individual’s treatment will differ based on their symptoms and problem areas, so do not follow any treatment without consulting a specialist.

  • Maintain hygiene:

Wash your penis with water every day and avoid using chemically infused shampoos and soaps as they may disturb the pH balance. Dry your penis every time using a sanitized cloth.
  • Patience:

Try being patient and waiting to see if your condition gets better without the use of any other medication. Usually, phimosis gets better on its own with time.
  • Steroid cream:

If your condition does not get better with time then your doctor might suggest a steroid cream. This is used to apply on the tip of the penis to make the foreskin stretchable over time. Depending on your requirement your doctor may suggest the use once or twice a day.
  • Circumcision:

Circumcision is a surgical method to remove the foreskin from the penis it is a very common process and has no side effects. This method is only used for serious cases and if you are constantly facing stiffness of your foreskin then it is best to get a suggestion from your doctor about circumcision.
