PRF for hair

PRF for hair

PRF, also commonly known as platelet-rich fibrin, is a new way of renewing hair follicles. We are sure a lot of people are unaware of this treatment, so today we will be sharing all the information we have about this treatment.

The platelet-rich fibrin treatment uses your own body’s platelets to help repair the dead or damaged cells and encourage cell growth which will lead to hair growth. Our blood is made up of many different components, like red blood cells, white blood cells and another important part of this is platelets.

Platelets help our blood clot when we get cut, nourish and repair damaged cells, increase cell turnover, foster collagen production, stimulate blood supply, boost stem cell rejuvenation, and stimulate growth. After several studies conducted on the platelets physicians found out that our body’s platelets can help rejuvenate and repair the damaged cells in our body.

In today’s time, a lot of people have started opting for a PRF treatment for their face, as the platelets have the power to reduce the early signs of aging, reduce acne scars, and can rejuvenate damaged cells making our skin bright and radiant.

How Does PRF Treatment Works?

Androgenetic alopecia also commonly known as AGA is common in both men and women and is one of the major causes of hair fall in both genders.

The PRF treatment helps in stimulating hair growth in patients with AGA by increasing blood supply to the damaged hair follicles. The increase in blood supply provides nourishment to hair follicles, which helps in increasing follicle diameter and leads to thicker hair shafts. This means that your new hair after this treatment will be stronger, and healthier.

Here are all the steps that are involved in the PRF treatment.

  • Drawing the blood: The procedure starts by extracting a few tubes of blood from the patient in a standard blood draw method, it may just feel like your normal blood test.
  • Centrifuge: The tubes of extracted blood are then taken to the laboratory where they are put into a specialized centrifuge to extract a layer that is highly rich in platelets. This layer of cells is then used for the PRF treatment.
  • Injection: The extracted PRF is then injected into your scalp at the level of the hair follicles. The injection process takes about 30 minutes.
  • Repeat: The PRF treatment is typically performed once a month for about three to four months. Most patients start to see results in 4 to 6 months which is a great start, a lot of patients also for another round every 1-2 years. Your physician might also prescribe topical or oral medications, such as finasteride, red light therapy, or minoxidil, to use while the treatment for better growth of hair.
