Stress and hair loss

Stress and hair loss

Stress can be a common denominator if you are suffering from hair fall. We all go through stress in our life, may it be environmental stress, work stress, or stress caused due to personal life.

Hair fall and stress do go hand in hand. There is no one reason for stress in our lives, sometimes it can be a mix of a lot of things we are going through at the same time.

There are three types of hair fall related to stress, let us know about them.

Telogen effluvium

This type of hair fall occurs when your hair follicles enter the telogen stage which is also known as the resting stage, this can lead up to hair fall. This type of hair fall does not occur all over the scalp but you may notice patches on your scalp.

This can occur to men or women and is reversible as it does not cause any permanent damage to hair follicles and your hair growth cycle may be back within a few months.

Alopecia areata

Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease, which means that your immune system starts attacking your hair follicles. It can be caused due to high levels of stress.

You may see patches all around your scalp with no hair, while it can get severe it is reversible and treatable. Both men and women face this type of hair fall and it is nothing to be scared of.

Trichotillomania

This is also commonly known as the hair-pulling disorder, it is related to an impulse control disorder. People may not even notice that they are pulling their hair off, it is unintentional and can arise due to high stress and mental problems.

It can develop around your teen years and can continue for a lifetime. If you know someone who is going through this then make sure you suggest to them a good doctor.

How to release stress and reduce hair fall

After talking about the various types of hair fall that is induced due to stress, let us now get into how you can control or release your stress to reduce hair fall.

Deep breaths

Doing deep breaths in and out is important, you can be overwhelmed or stressed before a big presentation and we are not kidding, deep breathing always helps it suddenly calms your body and mind down making you relaxed and attentive.

Meditation

If you often face stress in your workplace then meditation is important for you, try building a habit of getting up early and meditating. This will help you kick-start your day on a very positive note and make you ready for a day full of work and stress.

Journaling and focusing

Journaling has also helped in releasing stress, always make sure you write down things that need your attention so you don't forget them later which can add stress. Focus on things that require your energy and time and try eliminating any person who adds stress to your life.

Balanced diet and Sleep

Two of the most important factors that can help you overcome stress in any given situation. Eating a properly balanced diet is very essential for your body and mind to work and be active. Managing your Macronutrients is essential as they play a big role in releasing stress and making your mind and body healthy. Improving your sleep cycle is essential as not being able to rest your mind will only bring more stress to you and will make you unable to concentrate on your work which can again bring more stress, this is a constant cycle that needs to be broken.

Practice self-love

Practicing self-love is essential to make you calm and poised, you need to know your worth and you do not owe your work and success to anyone. Work-life can be stressful but you need to find a balance between both work and your personal life by rewarding yourself. Take yourself out on dates, buy yourself expensive things and most importantly relax.

Exercise everyday

Exercising every day is important to keep your stress levels in check, exercising releases happy hormones which can help in uplifting your mood instantly. You can start by walking every day for half an hour and then can take up your exercising routine from there.

Supplements

It is important to keep a balance of all the vital nutrients in your body, make sure that you are not lacking in any. A lot of times our diet can not complete our supplement requirement, you can always take Vitamin C, B, and E to keep you healthy and well.

It is also important to stay hydrated throughout the day, especially during the summer season.

If you are still noticing hair fall even after cutting down on stressful habits then make sure you visit your doctor, there might be other reasons for the hair fall that you are suffering from.

Take Away

Stress can take a toll on your health, make sure you are practicing healthy habits to reduce stress and lead a more relaxed life. Stress can not only be a cause for hair fall but it can also lead to other issues, make sure you take one thing at a time and relax as much as you can.
