This is an apple that grows in China in the winter. It is also known as the winter apple, wax apple, ice-cold apple, bingkao and the Chinese winter apple. This fruit is believed to have originated in northeastern China or Heilongjiang province in the north of China. It was originally called the winter apple since it only grows when the weather conditions are cold.

Mix till the sugar completely dissolves in the water. Now cut your ice apples into tiny cubes and add them to the mixture. Your ice apple sharbat is ready.

This dish is popular in West Bengal. Take the shells off and mash ice apples into a fine paste. Mix them with jaggery, cinnamon, rice four and make a fine batter. Take a pan and heat some ghee. Drop the batter one by one in a vada shape into the hot ghee and fry till the vadas turn golden brown on both sides. Serve your ice apple vadas hot.

To make nungu kheer, peel off the shells and cut ice apples into cubes. Now, take blanched almonds, cinnamon powder, milk and blend all the ingredients. Mix the almond mixture with milk and cook this mixture on a low flame for a few minutes. Once it starts getting thick, add sugar and mix well. Finally, add ice apple cubes and rest them in a refrigerator for some time.
