The Normal Penis Size

Small penis size is a common fear for almost everyone. But many consider the normal average size as too small.

This perception might be due to an exaggerated idea of the normal penis size. Or even it might be due to exaggerated pornography, advertisement, etc.

Penis size is measured when erect and not in its normal condition.

The normal penis size ranges from 3-5inches(7.5-13cm) when a penis is erect.

The penis is considered small only if it measures less than 3 inches or 7.5 cm. Such a condition is called micropenis.

Many products which are heavily advertised are unavailing. Some might even cause permanent harm to the penis. This might become more harmful than its benefits.

  • Vacuum Pumps

Vacuum pumps or penis pumps are devices that increase blood flow to the penis. Mostly used for treating Erectile dysfunction as it will cause an erection. But there is no significant growth in penis size. A study conducted in 2003 on 37 men showed that there was an increase in the mean length from 7.6 to 79cm. According to that study, the efficacy of this treatment is just 10 %.

  • Penis Injections

To increase girth, cosmetic fillers are injected into the penis just like other cosmetic fillers used on lips, cheeks, etc. This however may lead to a lumpy penis as your penis is a muscular organ with smooth muscles. This will last till 6 months at max because it will be absorbed by your body.

  • Pills and Lotions

These usually contain vitamins, herbs, or hormones that producers claim to enlarge the penis. Most of these products have been ineffective to work, and some may be harmful. There might be severe side effects of using these pills and lotion
    • Penile traction devices or Stretching

    Stretching involves attaching a stretcher or extender device, which is also referred to as a penile traction device. Penile traction devices help the penis to exert gentle tension.

      According to a study, patients have seen 1-6cms penis growth through this treatment. But excessive use might damage tissue.


      Exercises For Penis

      Sometimes called jelqing, these exercises use a hand-over-hand motion to push blood from the base to the head of the penis.
      Although this technique appears safer than other methods, there's no scientific proof it works, and it can lead to scar formation, pain, and disfigurement.

        While treatments or products of not much efficiency, some exercises may help in increasing penis size and also its girth.

        Here are a few exercises that increase penis size

        1. Jelqing Exercise

        This is the most common form of exercise among men by stretching the penis. No significant study on its efficiency is studied extensively yet. But jelqing is pretty safe to do unless you are squeezing your penis too hard. It helps in the thickening of the penis. In order to increase penis size, it is recommended that you do it at least once every day. It also helps in better erection that can benefit a healthy sex life. 

        How to do jelqing exercises?

        Here is a simple way of doing jelqing exercises.

        • Place your both hands around the base of the penis
        • Slowly move your hands from the base to the tip of your penis.
        • You can reduce a little pressure if it is painful
        • Loosen your hands at the tip of the penis
        • You can do this once per day for around 20 minutes.
        • Ideally, it should take around 3-5 secs to reach from the base to the tip of your penis
        • Using a good lube while doing jelqing is recommended to prevent chafing or skin irritation

        2. Stretching Exercise

        It is similar to jelqing exercises but it uses fingers instead of hands. It is said that it is one of the best ways to increase penis size.

        How to do stretching exercises?

        • Place your thumb and index finger at the base of your penis
        • Slowly start moving your fingers from the base of the penis to the tip of the penis 
        • Do it for 20 minutes. (Make sure you do not masturbate). 
        • If there is an erection, let the penis relax and continue after 5 minutes.
        • Repeat this exercise for at least 20 minutes every day. 
        • Use a lube if necessary to prevent chafing and skin irritation

        3. Massage Exercise

        This exercise focuses on improving the blood circulation in the penis. This will stretch the skin of the penis lightly, which will ultimately increase the size of your penis. You need to use lube for this exercise. Do it repeatedly to see significant changes and faster results.

        4. Penis Pump Exercise

        This exercise needs a penis stretching device attached to the penis. This will lead to erection immediately. It also helps in treating erectile dysfunction.

        How to do Penis pump exercise?

        Here is a simple way to do a penis pump exercise

        • Apply a good lubricant on the penis to avoid chafing and irritation. 
        • Place the penis pump tube over your penis properly. 
        • Switch on the pump 
        • It might take a few minutes for the erection to occur.
        • You will mostly probably ejaculate faster than your normal ejaculation period

        5.  Kegel Exercise

        It is squeezing and relaxing your pelvic floor muscles i., urethra, bowel, and bladder. These are proven to be beneficial for treating premature ejaculation and erectile dysfunction. It engages the muscles on your penis and thus increases blood flow, eventually helping in increasing penis size.

        Here is a simple instruction for you to do the kegel exercise

        • Sit in a comfortable position, close the eyes, and focus on pelvic floor muscles which can stop urine flow.
        • Squeeze these muscles as much as possible.
        • Hold in this position for 3–5 seconds or up to 10 sec depending upon you. You must notice that these muscles are lifted up due to squeezing
        • Relax the muscles and rest for 5 or more seconds
        • Repeat this up to 10 times.

        Surgical Methods to Increase Penis size

        There are few surgical options to increase the penis size. They are

        Penis Girth Surgery:

        Fat from other body parts is injected into the penis. The average girth of the penis is around 4.7 cm. Penis girth surgery can increase the girth up to 1-1.4cm. However, long-term results are not so satisfactory as after some time the fat is absorbed into the body, lumpiness, infections have been reported.

        Weight reduction and Liposuction:

        Excessive body fat especially in the abdomen region can make the penis look smaller than it. In such cases, weight reduction either naturally through diet and exercises or through a medical procedure such as liposuction will help you. It will also help in boosting confidence.

        Penis length surgery:

        It is a  common procedure that requires cutting of ligaments and attaching them to the pubic bone. It might also require some skin grafting that lets the penis get extra length. On average 2 cm of penis length is increased but it might decrease the erection angle and impact your sexual performance.
